PDK Atlantic Aviation Hangars K-L-Q

Chamblee, GA

Atlantic Aviation is the largest FBO at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) in Chamblee, Georgia. After recently building a new terminal building and hangars interior to the site, Atlantic turned their eyes on the remaining decades-old hangars on their leasehold at the airport entrance. The project site encompassed approximately 12 acres of land. The project scope included the demolition of three existing buildings, an existing wash rack, and asphalt pavement, as well as the construction of Hangars K, L, and Q, a new wash rack, landside parking lot, asphalt aircraft apron, landside concrete pavement, drainage infrastructure, and underground utilities.

Aulick Engineering (Aulick) provided civil engineering services for the project that involved site demolition planning, grading of the proposed site, drainage design, site design, nearly eight (8) acres of new concrete and asphalt pavement design, utility design, stormwater analysis, and erosion control design for the site surrounding the three aircraft hangars. Additionally, Aulick provided construction administration services during the construction of the project.

Throughout the construction process, Aulick worked in close collaboration with the contractor, making numerous micro grading revisions to ensure the constructability and successful completion of the project. Aulick team members on the construction site provided real-time communication with the contractor to navigate the unique challenges of the site’s heavy constraints.
