The project generally consisted of a 300’ extension of Runway 04 and Taxiway ‘A’ along with a 333’ paved safety overrun with the Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS). Aulick Engineering provided resident project representative services to ensure construction was performed in accordance with project construction plans and specifications. This project consisted of grading, drainage, paving, EMAS installation, night work, coordinating runway closures with the Owner, coordinating construction operations to meet FAA Safety requirements, and monitoring safety on the airfield. The Senior Resident Project Representative on-site for Aulick Engineering had to closely inspect the grading and paving below the EMAS due to very strict required tolerances to ensure the EMAS would function properly. In addition, the RPR had to help coordinate staging and phasing as the EMAS installation required large areas for stored materials to allow for proper phasing and additional observation to ensure that equipment and vehicles did not drive on the EMAS material and damage the slabs.
