The Athens-Ben Epps Airport is a regional airport that provides general aviation and commercial service in north Georgia. The Airport also services the University of Georgia, providing athletes, faculty and staff, students, and visitors of the University convenient access to air transportation. The Airport constructed a 600 foot runway extension so that aircraft using the airport could take off with more fuel, allowing them to travel farther distances. Aulick Engineering provided Construction Inspection Services for the grading and drainage phase of this 600 foot runway extension project. This phase of the project consisted of approximately 2 million cubic yards of earthwork over a 100 acre site and also included clearing and grubbing, erosion control, drainage installation, stormwater pond construction, water quality feature installation, and fencing. Aulick Engineering was responsible for providing full-time inspection services which included checking construction activities for conformance with the plans, verification of quantities, serving as the Owner’s liaison to the Contractor, preparing all required Georgia Department of Transportation and FAA paperwork, and running weekly construction meetings. Aulick Engineering also served as the Engineer of Record for the project.
